So it was resolved in the affirmative.
Sent to the senate by the clerk.
On motion, the question was put, That leave be given
to bring in a bill to ascertain and fix
the salaries of the judges of the court of appeals? Determined in
the negative.
The report on the petition of the justices of the levy
court of Prince-George's county was
read the second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill
pursuant thereto. ORDERED,
That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and bring in
the same.
The report on the petition of Francis Dawes and William C.
Gouldsmith was read the second
time, and the resolution therein contained assented to.
A petition from Rebecca Dorsey, widow of major Richard
Dorsey, late of Baltimore county,
deceased, stating, that her husband was wounded in the army, in consequence
of which he was
granted a pension of 300 dollars, and praying the state will make her an
allowance for the maintenance
of herself and children, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Ridgely,
Mr. Wilkins,
Mr. Addison, Mr. Carroll, Mr. J. T. Worthington, Mr. Taney and Mr. Cottman,
to consider
and report thereon.
On motion, ORDERED, That the bill for the relief of
sundry insolvent debtors, have a second
reading on Thursday next.
A petition from John Johnson, an alien, praying his
title to certain real property may be confirmed,
was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. J. Buchanan, Mr. Cellar and Mr.
McClain, to
consider and report thereon.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of Elizabeth-town,
in Washington county, praying an act
may pass for laying out a road from the said town on the nearest and best
ground towards Mercersburgh,
so as to strike the state line, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.
J. Buchanan,
Mr. McClain and Mr. Hyland, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from John Showman, stating, that he had a
negro man committed to Washington
county gaol for having committed a rape on a white woman, that the said
negro was indicted, and
acquitted by a jury, and soon afterwards died, and praying compensation,
was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. J. Buchanan, Mr. Cellar and Mr. McClain, to consider
and report thereon.
The house adjourns till to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

THE house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday
were read.
The resolution in favour of Francis Dawes and William
C. Gouldsmith was sent to the senate
by the clerk.
A petition from Archibald Robinson and Thomas Barton,
of Harford county, praying a return
of money paid into the treasury, was preferred, read, and referred
to the committee appointed
on the petition of Robert Amos to consider and report thereon.
Petitions from John Chalabre, of the city of Baltimore,
James McCardel and Richard Burrell, of
Washington county, and George Jenings, of the city of Annapolis, praying
acts of insolvency,
were preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions
of a similar nature.
Mr. Hall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to increase the
rent of the warehouse at Elk-Ridge Landing; which was read the first time
and ordered to lie on
the table.
Mr. Duckett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to authorise
certain commissioners to lay off a town in Prince-George's county, by the
name of Vans-Ville;
which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Harwood, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to authorise
and empower the levy court of Anne-Arundel county to assess and levy a
sum of money
for the support of Elizabeth Tyers; which was read the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.
Mr. Brown, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to lay out
certain roads from Andrew Gore and James Cooper's mill, in Baltimore county;
which was read
the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Warfield, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to open a
road from Patowmack river, opposite to the furnace in Virginia belonging
to Thomas Johnson
and company, to the widow Kemp's mill, in Frederick county; which was
read the first time and
ordered to lie on the table.

a bill, entitled, An act to establish an
