On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill for the
preservation of the breed of wild deer in
Somerset and Dorchester counties. ORDERED, That Mr. Hyland, Mr.
Stewart, Mr. Cottman,
Mr. Goldsborough and Mr. S. Frazier, be a committee to prepare and
bring in the same.
Mr. Warfield, from the committee, brings in and
delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An
act to compel the attendance of the members of the general assembly;
which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Goldsborough, from the committee, brings in
and delivers to speaker a bill, entitled,
An act to empower the levy court of Dorchester county to appoint a
constable for the town of
Cambridge; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.
The house took into consideration the order of the
day, and after examining witnesses at the
bar of the house, RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY, That the election for Montgomery
has been fairly
and constitutionally conducted, and that the delegates returned by
the sheriff of that county as
duly elected are entitled to hold their seats in this house.
ORDERED, That Mr. Key, Mr. Hall, Mr. Duckett, Mr. McPherson
and Mr. Wallace, be a
committee to tax the costs which have accrued in consequence of the memorial
of Lawrence
Oneale against the constitutionality of the election for said county.
A petition from Thomas Contee, of Prince-George's county,
praying to be heard by counsel
at the bar of the house in support of his claim as executor of Jane Contee
against the state, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Duckett, Mr. Key, Mr. Lowrey, Mr.
Taney and Mr. P.
Thomas, to consider and report thereon.
Mr. Key, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas
Contee, beg leave to report,
that the subject stated in the same involves a point of law of considerable
importance, and as the
petitioner has prayed to be heard by counsel, the committee are of opinion,
that in order that
the house may fully understand the subject, leave be given to hear counsel
on the subject of the
same to-morrow.

THE house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday, The proceedings of yesterday
were read. Mr. William Corbin, a delegate returned for Worcester
county, appeared,
and after qualifying in the mode prescribed by the constitution and form
of government, and
taking the oath to support the constitution of the United States, took
his seat in the house.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to revive
and aid the proceedings of the orphans
court of Calvert county. ORDERED, That Mr. Mackall, Mr. Carcaud and
Mr. Taney, be a
committee to prepare and bring in the same.
The bill to authorise and empower the levy court
of Dorchester county to assess and levy annually
a sum of money for the support of Philemon Brooke, was read the second
time, and passed.
Petitions from Josias and Thomas Clements, Casper Cline,
of the city of Baltimore., praying
acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the committee
appointed on petitions
of a similar nature.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to revive
the proceedings of the orphans court of
Harford county, and to call and adjourn the same. ORDERED, That Mr.
Bond, Mr. McComas
and Mr. Ayres, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
A petition from James Weems, of Calvert county,
stating, that a certificate issued by mistake
to Thomas Gray, former sheriff of Calvert county, which ought to have issued
in his name, that
the same has been lost or destroyed, and praying relief, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr.
Taney, Mr. Mackall and Mr. Brome, to consider and report thereon.
The order of the day, respecting the petition of Thomas
Contee, is postponed till Wednesday
next.
Mr. Bond, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act
to revive the proceedings of the orphans court of Harford county; which
was read the first time
and ordered to lie on the table.
The report on the petition of sundry inhabitants of
New-Market, in Frederick county, was
read the second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill
pursuant thereto. ORDERED,
That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and bring in
the same.
The report on the petition of Ruth Glaze, was read
the second time, concurred with, and
leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto. ORDERED, That the
committee appointed on the
said petition prepare and bring in the same.
