SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 576.
AN ACT granting the sanction of the General Assembly of
Maryland to certain bequests contained in the last will and
testament of Samuel Hoffman, late of Carroll County,
deceased.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction of the General Assembly of Maryland
be and the same is hereby given to the following bequests and
each of them contained in the last will and testament of
Samuel Hoffman, late of Carroll County, deceased, duly pro-
bated and recorded among the testamentary records in the
Orphans' Court for Carroll County, that is to say, bequests to
the deacons of the church at Pipe Creek and also the church
at Sam's Creek, known as German Baptists, one hundred and
fifty dollars each, to be used in repairing the grave yards of
said churches.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Approved April 7, 1900.

CHAPTER 577.
AN ACT to repeal Section two hundred and forty-four of
Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland,
title "Crimes and Punishments," sub-title "Rivers," and
to re-enact the same with amendments.

SECTION i. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section two hundred and forty-four of Article
27 of the Code of Public Generals Laws of Maryland, title
"Crimes and Punishments," sub-title "Rivers," be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, so
as to read as follows:

244. It shall not be lawful for any person to dig, dredge,
take and carry away any sand, gravel or other material
from the bed of the Potomac River, from its mouth to the
uppermost boundary line of Prince George's County, under a
penalty of a fine not exceeding three hundred dollars, and
