LAWS OF MARYLAND.

In case of
sickness, etc.,
the state's
Attorney shall
designate
another justice

117C. That if any justice of the peace so selected, as a
police justice for Easton District, is unable by reason of sick-
ness, absence, relationship, or for any other temporary cause
whatever to attend his duties as such police justice, it shall
be the duty of the State's Attorney for said county to desig-
nate and require another justice of the peace to perform the
duties of said police justice so sick, absent or otherwise unable
to perform the duties of his said office, so long as the same
may be necessary, or until the Governor shall select another
to perform said duties, and the said State's Attorney shall

Compensatior

forthwith certify any selection he may make to the County
Commissioners of Talbot County. The justice so required to
perform said duties as police justice shall receive the same
compensation prescribed for said police justice, and shall be
paid by the said County Commissioners, who shall deduct the
same from the salary of the police justice for whom he was
serving.

Lawful for any
justice to
issue a State
writ, etc.

117 D. That it shall be lawful for any justice of the peace
for Easton District, where the police justice is not accessible,
to issue a State writ for the arrest of any person violating any
of the laws of this State, or any ordinances of any of the
incorporated towns of said Easton District; but when issued
by any justices of the peace other than the police justice, said
writ shall be made returnable before the police justice, and
not before the justice issuing the same; the said police justice
being alone authorized to try criminal cases, and when said
writ is so issued and returned, the said justice so issuing the
same shall be allowed the fee therefor now fixed by law,
which fee shall be taxed in the cost of the case and paid by
Talbot County, unless the same be adjudged against the
party arrested, and paid by him.

Duty of officer
making arrest

117 E. That whenever any person shall be arrested upon
any criminal charge, or for the violation of any law of this
State, or for any of the ordinances of any incorporated towns
of Easton District, it shall be the duty of the officer mak-
ing said arrest to take the person so arrested before the police
justice selected under this Act, if the same shall have been
issued by or made returnable before him; and if such arrest
is made without the writ or warrant, it shall be the duty of
said officer to take the said person before the aforesaid police
justice.

117F. That every justice of the peace selected under this
Act as police justice shall file with the County Commissioners
rof Talbot County, on the first days of January, April, July
