calf, horned cattle, sheep or swine may have been impounded,
and any horse, mule, cow, calf, horned cattle, sheep or swine
so impounded shall be advertised by notice, printed or
written, set up at two of the most public places in said district
in which they are impounded.

Sec. 220. If any horse, mule, cow, calf, horned cattle, sheep
or swine shall remain so impounded for five days after notice
given as aforesaid, the party so impounding it or them may
sell the same at public auction after two days' notice, as pro-
vided in the preceding section, for the payment of costs and
expenses, including the said fifty cents per day, or fractional
part thereof.

How disputes
settled.
|
Sec. 221. All disputes arising between the owner or owners
of any horse, mule, cow, calf, horned cattle, sheep or swine,
and the person impounding same, shall be determined by a
justice of the peace of said county, who may summon wit-
nesses and decide the matter in controversy.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 425.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
seven hundred and forty-five of Article 4 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "City of Baltimore,"
sub-title "Police Commissioners," as said section was
enacted by Chapter one hundred and twenty- three of the
Acts of eighteen hundred and ninety-eight.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted bv the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section seven hundred and forty-five of Article 4
of the Code of Public Laws, title "City of Baltimore," sub-
title "Police Commissioners," be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so as to read as
follows:

745. The said Board of Police Commissioners are author-
ized and required immediately on entering on the duties of
their office to appoint, enroll and employ a permanent police
force for the City of Baltimore, which they shall arm and
equip as they may judge necessary under such rules and
regulations as they may from time to time prescribe; and said
board shall have power to remove any police officer or officers
