LAWS OF MARYLAND.

eleven and fifteen of same Article, as amended and re-enacted
by Acts of the General Assembly of eighteen hundred and
ninety-four, Chapter one hundred and ninety-one, be and the
same are hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as fol-
lows:

Appointment
of clerks.
Compensation

2. He shall have power to appoint a chief clerk who shall
receive a salary of twelve hundred dollars per annum, and
one assistant clerk who shall receive one thousand dollars per
annum, and two assistant clerks who shall receive each a
salary of nine hundred dollars per annum, and the sum of
four thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary,
is hereby appropriated annually for said purpose.

Moneys
payable to
State on
account of
public lands.

11 . All moneys payable to the State on account of the public
lands and all fees shall be paid to the Commissioner of the
Land Office, whose receipts therefor shall be a good acquit-
tance to the party paying the same; and the said commissioner
shall keep an accurate account of all such payments in a book
kept for the purpose, and shall account semi-annually, on the
thirty-first day of March and the thirtieth day of September,
with the Comptroller, on oath, and pay over to the treasurer
all such moneys so received; and twenty-five per cent, of
such moneys so received, the treasurer shall pay over on war-
rant of the Comptroller, semi-annually, to the Commissioner
of the Land Office.

Authority to
continue the
indexing of
records and
deeds.

15. He is authorized and empowered to continue the index-
ing of certain land records and extracts of deeds which were
transferred to the Land Office from the Court of Appeals under
the said Act of eighteen hundred and seventy-four, Chapter
sixty-six, and such extracts of deeds and mortgages of real
estate as shall be received by him from the clerks of the
Circuit Courts of the counties and the clerk of the Superior
Court of Baltimore City ; and the Comptroller of the Treasury
is directed to issue his warrant. for such sum or sums of money
as may from time to time be necessary to meet the cost (not
including clerical labor of such indexing) upon the certificate
of the correctness of the same given by the Commissioner of
the Land Office.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
