How election
shall be
conducted.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the tickets to be used at
said election in May, 1900, shall have printed on them the
words, "For the amendment of the Charter," and "Against
the amendment of the Charter;" and in order that the citi-
zens of said town shall be familiar with the question to be
submitted, it shall be, and is hereby made the duty of the
Mayor of Lonaconing to have the said proposed amendment
published in two newspapers of general circulation in said
town, and if, upon the return of the judges of said election,
it shall be found that a majority of the votes cast are in favor
of the amendment hereby proposed, then the same shall im-
mediately become effective; but if a majority of the votes
cast at said election shall be against the amendment, then the
same shall be non-effective; said additional sections to read
as follows:

46. Be it. enacted, That the Mayor and Councilmen of
Lonaconing are hereby authorized to levy an additional
assessment of not more than five cents on each one hundred
dollars' worth of assessable property within the corporate
limits of the town of Lonaconing, the additional fund so
raised to be devoted to the use of the fire company of Lona-
coning in the purchase of material and equipments for use at
fires, or for any other purpose to aid the fire company that
the Mayor and Councilmen of Lonaconing may deem expe-
dient, in order to enable said company to become more efficient
in their efforts to save life and property in case of fire. Said
funds thus raised to be annually appropriated to the fire com-
pany and to be payable to it by the treasurer of the town of
Lonaconing, monthly, in such amounts as may be collected by
the bailiff of said town; the said fire company, through its

properly constituted officers, shall annually submit to the said
Mayor and Councilmen an itemized statement showing for
what purposes and to what use the money thus appropriated
by the said Mayor and Councilmen during the year has been
expended, and should the Mayor and Councilmen at any time
be convinced that the money appropriated to the use of said
company, as herein provided, is not wisely and judiciously
expended by the said fire company, then the said Mayor and
Councilmen may curtail the appropriation or discontinue the
same, in their discretion. Should there at any time be more
than one fire company in said town of Lonaconing, the funds
thus raised in the manner herein provided shall be distrib-
uted between or among the fire companies at that time
existing, according to the requirements of said company, in
the discretion of the said Mayor and Councilmen; the funds
