CHAPTER 282.

AN ACT to amend the Charter, change the name and grant
additional powers to "The Society for Educating Poor and
Orphan Hebrew Children," a corporation incorporated
under the General Laws of Maryland, as they existed on
the twelfth day of September, 1860.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Charter of "The Society for Educating Poor
and Orphan Hebrew Children," a corporation created under
the provisions of the Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land of eighteen hundred and sixty, relating to corporations,
be and it is hereby amended so that the duration of said cor-
poration shall be perpetual.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the name of said corpora-
tion be and it is hereby changed to the name "Hebrew Edu-
cation Society of Baltimore City," which is hereby fixed and
established as the corporate name of said corporation.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all legacies now existing
or hereafter given by persons dying after the date of this Act,
and all gifts, grants and devises intended for this corporation,
but heretofore or hereafter given or made to it in the name of
"The Society for Educating Poor and Orphan Hebrew Chil-
dren," or any modification of the same, instead of its name
as fixed by this Act, shall inure to the benefit of and vest and
remain in said Hebrew Education Society; and by that name
the said corporation shall be capable of receiving, holding
and granting, mortgaging, leasing, conveying and alienating
its property both real and personal.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said Hebrew Educa-
tion Society shall have the power to educate poor and orphan
Hebrew children and other Hebrews who desire an educa-
tion.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said corporation shall be
governed by a board of twelve directors, and that Reverend
Alois Kaiser, Reverend Doctor Adolph Guttmacher, Henry S.
Hartogensis, Jacob Bamberger, Isaac Davidson, Emanuel H.
Fried, Lewis Kaufman, Moses Daniel, Morris Witz, Michael
S. Levy, Julius Rothhotz and Benjamin Cohen and their suc-
cessors shall constitute said board of directors for the first
year.
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
