public roads.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the qualified voters of Pocomoke City,
Worcester County, to decide by ballot whether or not
coupon bonds, not exceeding the amount of eight thousand
dollars, shall be issued by said city for the purpose of pro-
viding a proper electric light plant for said city.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That at a special election to be held in Pocomoke City
on the first Tuesday in September, of the year nineteen hun-
dred, that the question whether or not said city shall issue
coupon bonds to the amount of eight, thousand dollars, or less,
for the purpose of buying the present electric light plant
established in said town, at a valuation not to exceed the sum
of six thousand five hundred dollars, the remaining fifteen
hundred dollars, or so much as may be necessary, to be used
in the purchase of an engine to be placed in the power-house
of the water plant belonging to said city, and to be used in
running both plants in said city, shall be submitted to the
qualified voters of said city.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
Mayor of said city to make all preparations for the holding of
said election, appointing the necessary judges and clerks,
fixing the hours between which ballots shall be received,
securing polling room, and doing any and all things necessary
for the holding of said election and announcing the result,
and to publish in some newspaper of general circulation in
said city, at least two weeks prior to said election, a notice of
the holding thereof, and the ballots shall have printed on
them "For the Issue of Electric Light Bonds" and "Against
the Issue of Electric Light Bonds," and if a majority of the
votes cast shall be against the issue of electric light bonds,
then no bonds shall be issued; but if a majority of the votes
cast shall be in favor of the issuing of electric light bonds,
then the Mayor and Council of Pocomoke City shall issue
said bonds to the amount of eight thousand dollars or less, as
hereafter provided.
