resisting them in the discharge of their duties shall be liable,
upon conviction, to punishment in the same manner and to
the same extent as if he had resisted a constable, and they
shall perform all such other duties as are or shall be imposed
upon them by law, ordinance, or by order of Mayor and
Council, and they shall pay over all fines and fees that may
be collected by them to the treasurer monthly. If upon com-
plaint in writing and a fair and open trial before the Council,
after due notice and opportunity for accused to appear and
for defense, either of the above-named officers shall be
found guilty of misconduct, disobedience or neglect of duty
by a majority vote of all the members of the Council, such
findings shall be sent to the Mayor, and on his approval thereof,
the Mayor shall discharge such offender and may send into
Council for approval the name of some other person to fill
such vacancy, and such new appointee shall subscribe to such
oath as herein provided, and be subject to all the rights and
privileges of a night watchman. The Mayor shall have
power to appoint special police for a term not to exceed forty-
eight hours, when he deems it necessary, for the peace and
good order of the town, and to prescribe their duties and fix
their compensation, and they shall have all the police power
of the bailiff or night watchman.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 180.

AN ACT to repeal Section four hundred and sixty-one of
Article 4, Public Local Laws, entitled "City of Baltimore,"
sub-title "Gas Companies," as amended and re-enacted by
Chapter one hundred and twenty-three of the Acts of
eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and re-enact the same
with amendments.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section four hundred and sixty-one of Article 4,
Public General Laws, entitled "City of Baltimore," sub-title
"Gas Companies," as amended and re-enacted by the Acts of
eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, Chapter one hundred and
twenty-three, be repealed and re-enacted so as to read as
follows :

Gas
Companies.
