issue license to
sell liquor.

persons, or body corporate, to sell spirituous or fermented
liquors nearer than one and one-half miles, in all directions,
from the Providence Methodist Protestant Church, at Kemp-
town, Election District No. 9, Frederick County, Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

Queen Anne's
County.

CHAPTER 168.
AN ACT to refund to John R. Benton, of Queen Anne's
County, a sum of money erroneously paid by him into
the. State Treasury.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Comptroller of the Treasury be and he is
hereby authorized and directed to issue his warrant upon
the Treasurer of this State in favor of John R. Benton, of
Queen Anne's County, for the sum of thirty-six dollars
and nine cents, being the amount of State taxes erroneously
paid by him into the State Treasury for the years 1883,
1894 and 1895; the same having received the recommenda-
tion of the- Treasury officials.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 169.

Laurel Water
works, etc.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and City
Council of Laurel to borrow money on the credit of
said town for the purpose of constructing water-works for
said town, do necessary draining, and purchase, construct
or erect an electric lighting and power plant. To issue
bonds for the payment of the same, and to levy taxes
on the assessable property of said town to redeem the
said bonds and pay the interest thereon.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That for the purpose of establishing, constructing and
maintaining water-works capable of furnishing the residents
of the town with a good and sufficient supply of water for
ordinary purposes and for fire protection, and to do necessary
