137. There shall be the following number of justices of
the peace and constables in Baltimore County, that is to say:
For election district number one, eight justices of the peace
and four constables; for election district number two, five
justices of the peace and two constables; for election district
number three, eight justices of the peace and four constables;
for election district number four, four justices of the peace
and two constables; for election district number five, four
justices of the peace and two constables; for election district
number six, four justices of the peace and two constables;
for election district number seven, four justices of the peace
and two constables; for election district number eight, six
justices of the peace and two constables; for election district
number nine, eleven justices of the peace and five constables,
one of whom shall reside in Towson; for election district
number ten, three justices of the peace and two constables;
for election district number eleven, nine justices of the peace
and six constables; for election district number twelve, six
justices of the peace and two constables; for election district
number thirteen, three justices of the peace and three con-
stables; for election district number fourteen, three justices
of the peace and two constables; for election district number
fifteen, seven justices of the peace and three constables; but
the County Commissioners may, in their discretion, upon the
expiration of the terms of the constables who are in office at
the time of the passing of this Act, appoint a less number
of constables for any election district than the nnmber here-
inbefore named; provided, that there shall always be at least
one constable in each of said election districts.

Appointment
of Justices of
the Peace and
Constables.

138. It shall be the duty of the Governor, after the appoint-
ment of the justices of the peace provided for in the foregoing
section, to select from the justices of the peace so appointed
one justice of the peace to sit at each of the following station
houses in Baltimore County, to wit: At Canton, Twelfth Dis-
trict; at St. Denis and Mt. Winans, Thirteenth District.
Each justice so selected shall keep his office at the station
house for which he was appointed, and shall attend at such
station house every day (Sundays excepted) at least from the
hours of 9 o'clock A.M. until 12 o'clock M., and from 3
o'clock P.M. until 5 o'clock P.M., and shall also attend at
his said station house at such other hours and times as he
may be required so to do by the County Commissioners or by
the State's Attorney for Baltimore County. When any such
justice appointed to sit at any station house shall designate
any other justice of the peace to act for him in his absence it
