LAWS OF MARYLAND.

December thirty-first of the previous year, the amount and
kind of material used on each road, with a detailed statement
of its cost for material, and the amount and cost of labor on
each road; and shall further make a statement of the plans
which he has submitted to the Road Commissioners in each
district; the report shall contain a concise statement of the
amount of money expended in each district for material and
labor, which concise statement shall be published by the
County Commissioners in two county papers of different politi-
cal faith, twice during the month of February in each year.

Compensation

Sec. 198. The Baltimore County Roads Engineer shall
receive a salary of two thousand dollars annually in monthly
instalments, and five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as
may be necessary to meet the traveling, office and all other-
expenses, including drawings, specifications, etc., incurred in
the discharge of his duties, which shall be paid by the County
Commissioners upon presentation of the account, with properly
signed vouchers.

Sec. 199. The County Commissioners shall annually levy
upon the assessable property of Baltimore county, at the time
of making the county levy, not less than fifteen cents nor
more than twenty-five cents on the one hundred dollars, for
the use of the county roads and bridges, which shall be col-
lected as other county taxes are collected, of which five cents-
on the hundred shall be set apart as a general road and bridge
fund, and be applied to the general use and the benefit of the
roads and bridges in Baltimore County, and to no other pur-
pose, and the remainder of the tax so levied and collected for
roads and bridges shall be set apart as a special road and
bridge fund, which shall be for the use and benefit of that
district from which it has been collected, and for no other
purpose.

Authority to
borrow certain
sum.

Sec. 200. When there shall not be sufficient money in the
county treasury set apart as a general road and bridge fund.
to meet the requirements of the county at large, the County
Commissioners are hereby authorized to borrow upon the
credit of the county a sum not exceeding twenty thousand
dollars therefor, the payment of which loan shall be provided:
for in the tax levy of the following year.

Sec. 201 . Whenever any person or persons shall desire to
improve any road to an extent beyond that contemplated by
the Board of Road Commissioners of the district where
located, they may make application to the County Commis-
sioners, by petition, setting forth the location of the road to-
