shall be as valid to all intents and purposes as if the said mort-
gages or assignments of mortgages had been sworn to in con-
formity with law.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 657.
AN ACT to repeal Sections 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22,
24, 25, 31, 32, 34 and 36 of Article 65, of the Code of Pub-
lic General Laws, title "Militia," as re-enacted by Chapter
eighty-nine of the Acts of Assembly of eighteen hundred
and ninety -six, and to re-enact the same, with amendments,
and to add additional Sections to said Article 65, Code of
Public General Laws, title "Militia," as re-enacted by
Chapter eighty-nine, of the Acts of Assembly of eighteen
hundred and ninety-six, and by this Act to be known and
designated as Sections I4A, 50, 51, 52 and 53.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the. General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25,
31 , 32, 34 and 36 of Article 65, of the Code of Public General
Laws, title "Militia," as re-enacted by Chapter eighty-nine,
of the Acts of Assembly of eighteen hundred and ninety -six,
be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, so as to read as follows:

8. The first brigade, already formed and organized out of
the volunteer uniformed organizations now existing, together
with such others as may be provided for by law, and the naval
brigade, as hereinafter constituted, shall constitute the body
of organized militia, and shall be known as the "Maryland
National Guard." The first brigade shall consist of not more
than forty companies, infantry, cavalry, artillery and signal
corps, to contain not more than twenty-five hundred enlisted
men; the naval brigade shall consist of not more than two
battalions, to contain not more than three hundred and twenty-
four enlisted men.

Maryland

9. The "Maryland National Guard," until otherwise pro-
vided by law, shall consist of the following infantry organiza-
tions: The First Regiment, the Fourth Regiment, the Fifth
Regiment, the Separate Colored Company, Troop A Cavalry
