A bill entitled "An Act to amend Article 33, of the
Code of Public General Laws, title ‘Elections,' as re-en-
acted by chapter 202, of the Acts of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland of 1896, by adding thereto eleven addi-
tional sections, under the sub title ‘Corrupt Practices, to
follow section 151 as now enacted."
Which was read the first time and referred to the Com-
mittee on Elect-ions.
On motion of Mr. Brewington, it was
Ordered, That the following bill, offered by Senator
Moore, be printed in the Journal of to-day's session:
A bill entitled "An Act to amend Article 33, of the
Code of Public General Laws, title ‘Elections,' as re-en-
acted by chapter 202, of the Acts of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, of 1896, by adding thereto eleven addi-
tional sections under the sub-title ‘Corrupt Practices,' to
follow section 151, as now enacted.
"Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Article 33, of the Code of Public General
Laws of Maryland, title ‘Elections,' as re-enacted by the
Acts of 1896, chapter 202, he and the same is hereby
amended to be added thereto, the following eleven sec-
tions under the sub-title ‘Corrupt Practices,' to follow
section 151, and to he known as ‘Sections 152, 153, 154,
155, 156, 157, 158, 159, 160, 161 and 162.
"Sec. 152. It shall he unlawful for any person, directly
or indirectly, by himself or through any other person.
(a) "To pay, loan or contribute, or offer, or to promise
to pay, loan or contribute, any money or other valuable
consideration to or for army voter, or to or for any other
person, to induce such voter to vote or refrain from vot-
ing at any election provided by law, or to induce any
voter to vote or refrain from voting at such election for
any particular person or persons, or to induce such voter
to go to time polls, or remain away from the polls at such
election, or on account of such voter having voted or re-
frained from voting for any particular person, or having
gone to the polls or rethained away at such election."
(b) "To give, offer or promise any office, place or em-
ployment, or to promise orprocure or endeavor to pro-
