Mr. Applegarth presented a memorial from Henry J.
Philips and 35 other citizens, of looper's Island. protest-
ing against the closing of the waters of Dorchester to
scraping or otherwise abridging the catching of oysters
with scrapes or dredges.
Which was read and referred to the Committee on
Chesapeake Bay and Tributaries.


ORDERS.
On motion of Mr. Moses, it was
Ordered, That Senator Crothers be excused from to-
day's session on account of sickness.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS.

A bill entitled "An Act to incorporate the Fuel Com-
pany of Maryland and define its rights and powers."
Which was read the first time and referred to the
Committee on Corporations.
By Mr. Peter,
A bill, entitled "An Act to empower and authorize tihe
Mayor and City Council of Ellicott City to issue im-
provement bonds."
Which was read the first time and referred to Senators
Peter, Williams, of Anne Arundel, and Williams of Har-
ford.
By Mr. Bryan (by request),
A bill entitled "An Act to prohibit the sale of intoxl-
cating liquors at Ruxton Station, Baltimore county,
Maryland, or within a radius of a mile and a-half there-
of."
Which was read the first time and referred. to the Com-
mittee on Temperance.
By Mr. Bouic (by request),
A bill entitled "An Act to authorize t-he change of
name of the Washington and Rockville Railway Com-
pany of Montgomery county, a corporation formed under
the provisions of Article 23, of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws of this State, and to authorize the consolida-
tion of said company with certain other corporations in-
