AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
After line 162 of original bill, add the following:
164. It shall not be lawful for any corporation created
under the laws of this State or doing business in this
State, to pay out or expend, or promise, agree or offer to
pay, contribute or expend any money or other valuable
thing whatever, directly or indirectly, in order to secure
or aid in securing the nomination or election, or the
nomination and election of any person or persons to
any public office in this State, under the laws thereof,
or under the laws of the United States, or in
furtherance of the enactment or to defeat the en-
actment of any law, ordinance or Constitutional provision
to be submitted to a popular vote, or as a contribution to
the campaign fund or election expenses of any political
party or organization whatsoever; and any corporation
violatiug the provisions of this section shall, on convic-
tion, be fined not less than five hundred nor more than
ten thousand dollars for each and every offence, one-half
of such fine to be paid to the informer and the remainder
thereof to the county or city where the same may be im-
posed. And any officer or employee of any such corpo-
ration, or any other person or persons, who shall on its
behalf, directly or indirectly so pay out or expend, or
promise, agree or offer to pay out or expend any money
or other valuable thing whatsoever for any one or more
of the purposes aforesaid, or who shall directly or indi-
rectly solicit or receive from any corporation created
under the laws of this State, or doing business in this
State, any money or other valuable thing whatsoever for
any one or more of the purposes aforesaid, shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor and, on conviction, shall be imprisoned
for not less than six months, nor more than two years,
in the discretion of this Court.
