Mr. Crothers, from Committee on Finance, reported
favorably,
House bill entitled "An Act to refund to Caleb H.
Price certain money spent by him to defend himself in
a criminal prosecution, the cause of which happened
while acting as a deputy officer of the Oyster Police
Force of the State of Maryland."
Which was read the second time.
Mr. Moses and Mr. Williams, of Harford, from Com-
mittee on Civil Service, reported favorably, with pro-
posed amendment,
Mr. Brewington and Mr. Kirwan without recommenda-
tion,
Mr. Wilkinson, unfavorably,
Senate bill No. 7, entitled "An Act to amend Article
33, of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled ‘Elec-
tions,' as re-enacted by chapter 202, of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland, of 1896, by adding there-
to twelve additional sections under the sub-title ‘Cor-
rupt Practice,' to follow section 151 as now enacted.'
Amendment proposed by Messrs. Moses and Williams.
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
After line 16 of original bill, add the following:
164. It shall not be lawful for any corporation created
under the laws of this State or doing business in this
State, to pay out or expend, or promise, agree or offer to
pay, contribute or expend any money or other valuable
thing whatever, directly or indirectly, in order to secure
or aid in securing the nomination or election, or the
nomination and election of any person or persons to
any public office in this State, under the laws thereof,
or under the laws of the United States, or in
furtherance of the enactment or to defeat the en-
actment of any law, ordinance or Constitutional provision
to be submitted to a popular vote, or as a contribution to
the campaign fund or election expenses of any political
party or organization whatsoever; and any corporation
violatiug the provisions of this section shall, on convic
