FURTHER AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
By Mr. Putzel,
Amend by striking out of section 1 of the bill, all of
the proposed section 6, and insert in lieu thereof, as fol-

"6. The Boards of County School Commissioners of
each county in the State, except those hereinafter named,
shall each consist of three persons to be appointed as
hereinafter directed. The said boards of the counties of
Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick and Washington, shall each
consist of six persons, to be appointed as hereafter di-
rected. The present members of all of said boards shall
continue in office until the first day of May of the year
in which their terms would have expired under the law
repealed by this Act, and after the passage thereof, all
vacancies in said boards shall be filled as follows: All
persons appointed prior to the passage of this Act to suc-
ceed any member or members of said boards whose term
would have expired on the 1st day of August, in the year
1898, shall on the first day of May, in the year 1898, be-
come members of said respective boards, to which they
were so appointed, as if the law under which they were
appointed, has provided that their terms should begin on
said last named date, and shall so continue for the term
of six years from said date.
