Mr. Latrobe presented the memorial of Johns Hop-
kins University, asking for an appropriation.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on
Ways and Means.

ORDERS.

Mr. Duncan, by request of the Judiciary Committee,
submitted the following order:

Ordered, That the Chairman of the Judiciary Commit-
tee be, and he is hereby authorized to appoint a clerk to
said committee, at a salary of five dollars per day.

And on his motion, the Rules were suspended and the
order passed.

On motion of Mr. Wilson, it was

Ordered, That Mr. Finzel, of Garrett, be excused on
account of important business.

On motion of Mr. Hanson, it was

Ordered, That Mr. Humphrey D. Wolfe be excused
from to-day's session on account of business.

On motion of Mr. Bennett, it was

Ordered, That Mr. John H. Waller and Thomas S.
Roberts be excused from to-day's session on account of
business.

On motion of Mr. Buckey, it was

Ordered, That Mr. Brown of Frederick, be excused
from to-day's session on account of business.

Mr. Collins submitted the following order:
