authority and an inspector of the original ballots cast
at such primary election at some specified, precinct
or district or at all the precincts and districts as the
case may be, is expedient for the just and proper deter-
mination of such contest, which, certificate shall be signed
by the chairman and secretary of such party authority
and acknowledged by them before some officer authorized
to take acknowledgments of deeds to be the act of the
said party authority, and that they, the said chairman
and secretary, were respectively authorized to sign such
request, the Board of Supervisors shall at such reasonable
time as it may determine at its office in the presence of
such party authority or of such committee of such party
authority as may be authorized to attend for such pur-
pose, open the ballot box of such precincts or districts as
may be specified in such certificate, and shall permit
the said ballots in said ballot box to be inspected
by the said party authority or its committee as afore-
said, but shall not permit any of said ballots to be
removed from the office of the said Supervisors of Elec-
tions, and so soon as such inspection shall be completed,
the said ballots shall be again returned to the said ballot
box sealed up in bundles as they were when opened by
the said Board of Supervisors, and the said ballot box it-
self shall be sealed up in the manner in which it was re-
quired to be sealed by the judges of election, except that
upon the slip of paper across the keyhole shall be signed
the names of the Board of Supervisors of Elections. The
said ballot boxes shall be kept sealed until eight days be-
fore the day of the next ensuing regular election, when
they shall he opened and the ballots contained therein
shall be destroyed by burning.

167. Whoever shall (1) falsely make or fraudulently
deface or fraudulently destroy any certificate pro-
vided for by section 157 of this Article, or (2) file
any such certificate knowing He same or any part there-
of o be falsely made, or (3) suppress any such certificate
which has been July filed or any part thereof, or (4) shall
forge or falsely make the official endorsement on any bal-
lot, shall be punished by a fine of not less than one hun-
dred dollars nor more than one thousand dollars, or by
imprisonment, in jail for a period not exceeding three
