Which were adopted.
Mr. Dryden submitted the following proposed amend-
ments:
AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.
Strike out all of "Section l" down to and including the
word "county, " and insert the following:
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the legal and qualified voters of Somerset county
are hereby authorized and empowered to elect at the
next general State election, to be held in the year 1901,
and every two years thereafter some properly qualified
citizen of Somerset county to be county treasurer and
collect State and county taxes in said county. "
Section 2, strike out all of said section and insert the
following:
"And be it enacted, That the term of office for the
first person elected under the provisions of this Act
shall begin on the first day of July, 1902, and such per-
son shall hold his office for two years and until his suc-
cessor is elected and qualified, and shall be subject at all
times to be removed by the Governor for wilful neglect
of duty or misdemeanor in office upon conviction in a
court of law. "
In section 3, line 1, strike out the word "appointed, '
and insert in lieu thereof "elected. "
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
By Mr. Dryden,
Strike out all of "section 10" and insert in lieu thereof
the following:
"And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect and
go into operation on the 30th day of June, in the year
1902, but nothing herein contained shall prevent the elec-
tion of the said treasurer and collector at the said election
in 1901, and nothing herein contained shall be construed
to impair and impede or abate any proceedings already
taken, or to be taken in the collection of taxes in Somer-
set county, under existing laws. "
