Mr. Knott, from Committee on Corporations, reported
favorably with proposed amendments,

House bill entitled "An Act to amend the charter of
the Washington and Potomac Railroad Company and ex-
tend the time for completion of this railroad. "

AMENDMENT PROPOSED BY THE COMMITTEE.

In the title strike out in line 2 the words, "and to ex-
pend" and substitute the word "by expending. "

In lines 17 and 18 of the preamble, strike out the
words "same enlargement of its corporate powers, " and
substitute the words "an extension of the time for the
completion of its road. "

In line 6 of section 1, strike out the figures "1904, "
and insert the figures "1902. "

Strike out the last paragraph of section 1, being lines
7 to 15, of said section, and insert as follows:

"Provided, however, that this Act is passed and accep-
ted by said Washington and Potomac Railroad Company
upon the express condition that it shall issue and deliver
to the State of Maryland sixteen hundred and thirty
shares of preferred stock of said company instead of six-
teen hundred and thirty shares of its common stock now
held by the State, which preferred stock shall be and
constitute a lien upon the property of said company sec-
ond only to the lien of a bonded debt of two millions of
dollars, and the interest thereon, which said company
shall create for its corporate purposes, and which said
preferred stock said company is hereby authorized to
issue. "

Strike out all of section "2. "
