Means to introduce a bill entitled "An Act to appropriate
a sum of money for the purpose of assisting the Society
of the War of 1812, in Maryland, in erecting a monument
upon the North Point battle ground, in commemoration
of the battle of North Point, in the War of 1812, and to
perpetuate the memory of the citizen soldiers who there-
on defended the soil of this country. "
On motion of Mr. Mencke,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Claims to in-
troduce a bill entitled "An Act to refund to Alexander
Merner a sum of money paid by him to the Comptroller
of the Treasury of the State, and converted into the
Treasury of the State, for license to dredge for oysters
with schooner L. W. Bates. "
On motion of Mr Mann,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore county delegation
to introduce a bill entitled "An Act to repeal the forty-
fourth section of Article 3, of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title 'Baltimore County, ' sub-title
'County Treasurer, ' and to re-enact the same with amend-
ments. "
On motion of Mr. Martenet,
Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation, to
introduce a bill entitled "An Act to enable the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore city to appropriate money
to compensate Arthur W. Shanklin for the loss of a
spring. "
The Speaker announced that Mr. Dudley, of Talbot
county, had been placed upon the Committee on Civil
Service, in place of Mr. Willis, and Mr. Willis on the
Committee on Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries, in
place of Mr. Dudley.
JOINT RESOLUTION.
Mr. Choate submitted a Joint Resolution, requesting
our Representatives in Congress to vote for the passage
of the Grant and Richardson bills now before Congress,
Which was read a first time, and referred to the Com-
mittee on Federal Relations.
