XVI. AND BE IT ENACTED, That in all appointments
of trustees under this act by the chancellor,
in the room of any person before appointed, the chancellor shall consult
the creditors, and
govern himself by the choice of a majority of them in value, unless upon
notice being given by public
advertisement, or in such other matter as he shall think reasonable,
the said creditors shall neglect
to make such choice.
XVII. AND BE IT ENACTED, That none of the said
debtors who do not make application as
aforesaid on or before the first day of June next, shall have any benefit
of this act. |

An ACT for the benefit of Henry Joseph Stier, of Prince-George's
county.
WHEREAS Henry Joseph Stier, a native of Germany, now a resident of
Prince-George's
county, some years past came into this state, with a bonâ fide
intention of residing therein,
and he has since bargained and contracted for considerable real property;
therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That all conveyances, touching or concerning
such real estates, that shall be made or executed to the said Henry
Joseph Stier, shall have
the same effect, operation and validity, as if the said Henry Joseph Stier
had been naturalized
at the time the same shall be executed or entered into; provided always,
that nothing in this act
contained shall be construed in any manner to affect any right or claim
to the said property acquired
by any person or persons before the passage of this act; and provided also,
that unless the
said Henry Joseph Stier shall, on or before the first day of June next,
proceed according to law to
make himself a citizen of the United States, this act shall have no effect
to confirm his title to the
property above mentioned, nor shall he, or any person claiming under
him, derive any benefit
under this act; but if the said Henry Joseph Stier shall die before the
time when, by the laws
of the United States, he may become a citizen thereof, nothing in this
proviso contained shall
prevent him from transmitting or transferring his said property by descent
or devise to any issue he
may leave residing within the United States, who is hereby declared capable
in law to hold
the same. |

CHAP. XLVI.

An ACT to enlarge the powers of the commissioners of the town
of Havre-de-Grace.
WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition
of the commissioners,
and sundry inhabitants of the town of Havre-de-Grace, that large quantities
of pine plank
are rafted down the river Susquehanna to said town, and that an inspector
of lumber is necessary to
be appointed; and further, they pray that the said commissioners may be
empowered to lease, upon
short leases, public ground lying in said town, and other ground which
has been heretofore laid out
for streets, lanes and alleys, but not yet used as such, and now lying
vacant and useless, for the purpose
of raising a fund for the building of a market-house in said town; and
the same being considered
reasonable, therefore,
II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the commissioners of the town of
Havre-de-Grace, or a major part of them, shall and they hereby have full
power and authority to
establish and regulate inspections of plank, staves, heading and shingles,
offered for sale within the
said town of Havre-de-Grace, subject nevertheless to the future acts of
the general assembly; and
also to regulate the fees of inspectors under this act.
III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said commissioners,
or a major part of them, be and they
are hereby empowered and authorised, from time to time, to lease and demise
for a term of years,
not exceeding two years, any public ground lying within said town, and
other ground which has
been heretofore laid out for streets, lanes and alleys, and not yet used
as such, and now lying vacant
and useless, and the money and rents thence arising to apply to the repairing
the streets, lanes and
alleys, used as such, and to the building a market-house in said town. |
