By the SENATE, December 9, 1800. WE accede to your amendment, and are ready to proceed immediately to the election of a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States. We have proposed no person in addition to those mentioned by your house. We have appointed James Hollyday ad Philip Thomas, Esquires, to join in the examination of the ballots. By order, W. S. GREEN, clk. The senate then proceeded to the election of a senator from the eastern shore to represent this state in the senate of the United States, in the place of James Lloyd, Esquire, resigned; the ballot box being prepared, the ballots deposited therein, sealed up, and delivered to the committee of the senate appointed to join the committee of the house of delegates, they retired to the conference room, and after examining the ballots returned and reported, that William Hindman, Esquire, had forty-nine votes, and Richard Tilghman Earle, Esquire, had forty votes. Whereupon it is declared in the senate, that William Hindman, Esquire, is duly elected a senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States for the remainder of the term for which James Lloyd, Esquire, had forty votes. The clerk of the house of delegates delivers the following resolution: of any unappropriated monies that may be in the treasury, four thousand dollars, after the first day of January next, in full for his services in compiling his edition of the laws of Maryland. By order, W. HARWOOD, clk. Which was read the first and second time by especial order and assented to. W E D N E S D A Y, December 10, 1800. THE senate met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read. act of congress, entitled, An act to establish an uniform system of bankruptcy throughout the United States. By order, W. S. GREEN, clk. The senate then proceeded to the second reading by especial order of the bill for the relief of sundry insolvent debtors, and, on motion, the question was put, That the following be proposed as an amendment thereto? After the word "Colston" in the thirteenth line of the first page insert " Andrew Price." Determined in the affirmative. On progression in reading the said bill, the question was put, That the following be proposed as amendments thereto? After the word "Bozman" in the fourteenth line of the same page insert " Thomas White." After the word "Clarke" in the first line of the second page insert " James Alexander Magruder, Benoni Hamilton Wade, David Young." After the word "Lee" in the ninth line of the same page insert " William Boone." After the word "Smith" in the fourteenth line of the third page insert " James Curtis, Francis Brandt, William Paine, Theodocius James Hamilton." Determined in the affirmative. On further progression in reading the said bill, the question was put, That the following be proposed as amendments thereto? Strike out the words " can be served therewith" in the last line of the fifth page, and insert " he may think proper." Strike out the last word "or" in the same line and insert "and." Determined in the affirmative. On further progression in reading the said bill, the question was put, That the following be proposed as amendments thereto? After the word "in" in the first line of the sixth page insert " some one of." After the word "papers" in the second line of the same page insert " of the cities of Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia." Determined in the affirmative. On further progression ion reading the said bill, the question was put, That the following be proposed as an amendment thereto? After the word "months" in the fourth line of the same page insert " and in case of there being a creditor or creditors out of this state, but within the Untied States, shall not be less than sixty days." Determined in the affirmative. On further progression in reading the said bill, the question was put, That the following be proposed as an amendment thereto? Strike out the word "thereby" in the last line of the same page and insert " with intent." Determined in the affirmative. |
