Great Choptank river, the amendments thereto, and the resolution in
favour of John Gibson, were sent to the
house of delegates by the clerk.
The president communicates to the senate a report of
the trustees of the Easton academy, containing an account
of the state of that seminary; which was read, referred to the consideration
of the house of delegates,
and sent by the clerk.
The president communicates to the senate the resignation
of Nicholas Hammond, Esquire, of his seat in the
senate of Maryland; which was read, and accepted by the state.
On motion, ORDERED, that at eleven o'clock to-morrow
the senate proceed to the election of a senator, to
serve in the senate of Maryland in the room of Nicholas Hammond, Esquire,
resigned.
The president communicates to the senate a letter from
his excellency the governor, enclosing communications
from Samuel Chase, Esquire, relative to the stock belonging to this state
in the bank of England; which were
read, referred to the consideration of the house of delegates, and sent
by the clerk.
On motion, David McMechen, Esquire, delivers to
the president a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled,
An act for the administration of justice in the several counties of this
state, endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" November 24, 1800: Read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.

A bill, entitled, An act for the relief of William Ballenger, Basil Dorsey
and Anthony Poultney, of Frederick
county, a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Thomas Beall, of Samuel,
of Allegany county, severally

first time and ordered to lie on the

The clerk of the house of delegates delivers a bill,
entitled, " An act for the destruction of squirrels in Caroline
county, endorsed; " By the house of delegates, November 25, 1800:

November 27, 1800.
THE senate met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. Charles Goldsborough, junior, Esquire, appeared
in the senate. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
The senate having previously qualified agreeably to
the constitution and form of government, proceeded to the
election of a senator to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation
of Nicholas Hammond, Esquire; the ballot
box being prepared, and the ballots deposited therein, on examination
thereof it appeared, that Philip Thomas,
Esquire, was unanimously elected.
Whereupon it is declared in the senate, that Philip
Thomas, Esquire, is elected a member.
The senate adjourns till to-morrow morning 10 o'clock.

A Y, November 28, 1800.
THE senate met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
Philip Thomas, Esquire, appeared, and qualified in the
presence of the senate, before Allen Quynn,
Esquire, one of the justices of the peace for Anne-Arundel county, agreeably
to the constitution and form of
government.
The following message was prepared, read and agreed
to.
