Which amendments were read.
The following resolution being propounded to the
house, was read the first and second time and assented to,
viz.
RESOLVED, That the chancellor, upon bill or petition
being filed by Robert Courtenay, in relation to his purchase
of the state of Maryland a tract of land called Part of Carroll's Scrutiny,
lying in Baltimore county,
be authorised to proceed upon said bill or petition, and to ascertain
the deduction, if any, that ought to have
been made from the purchase money of said land, in the same manner
as if said Courtenay had, at any time
heretofore, filed said bill against the state of Maryland' and that
on said deduction, if any, being decreed, and
the decree being presented to the treasurer of the western shore, he
pay the amount thereof to the said Robert
Courtenay out of any unappropriated money which may be in the treasury.
The house adjourns till to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

THE house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
The resolution in favour of Robert Courtenay, was
sent to the senate by the clerk.
Petitions from William Smith and Samuel Williams,
of Montgomery county, praying acts of insolvency, were
preferred, read to the committee appointed on the petitions of Chamberlaine
and Magruder.
A petition from the surveyors of the several counties
on the eastern shore, praying that a table of fees may be
formed, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Dashiell, Mr. Lemmon,
Mr. Holbrook, Mr. Chapman and Mr.
Chambers, to consider and report thereon.
Mr. Smith, of Baltimore, from the committee, delivers
to the speaker the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition
of Henry Casey, of the city of Baltimore, report, that
they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion the
prayer of the petitioner is reasonable, and
that a law ought to pass agreeable to the prayer of said petition.

with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant thereto.
ORDERED, That the committee appointed on said petition prepare and
bring in the same.
A petition from Joseph Ford, of Saint-Mary's county,
praying depreciation of pay, was preferred, read, and
referred to Mr. Chambers, Mr. Neale and Mr. Smith, of Baltimore, to
consider and report thereon.
Mr. Smith, of Baltimore, from the committee, delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of
Henry Casey, of the city of Baltimore; which was read the first and
second time by especial order, passed, and
sent to the senate by the clerk.
The bill to dispose of the surplus lots in Allegany
county, westward of Fort Cumberland, was read the second
time, and the question put, That the said bill do pass? Determined
in the negative.

An act to make a temporary allowance to the judges of the general court,
in addition to their permanent salaries,
passed November session, 1797, chapter 50. A supplement to the
act respecting certificates of surveys made on
the eastern shore, passed November session, 1797, chapter 53.
An act to alter the mode of collecting the county
tax in Cæcil county, passed November session, 1797, chapter 59.
An act to make a temporary allowance to the
chancellor, in addition to his salary as chancellor and judge of the
land-office, passed November session, 1797,
chapter 71. An act to ascertain the allowance to jurymen and
witnesses to the general court, and the several
county and orphans courts in this state, passed November session, 1797,
chapter 94. An act to enable the corporation
of the city of Annapolis to lay a tax on property within the said city
and the precincts thereof, passed
November session, 1797, chapter 115. A supplement to an act,
entitled, An act to ascertain the allowance of
jurymen and witnesses of the general, and the several county and orphans
courts in this state, passed November
session, 1798, chapter 5. A supplement to the act, entitled,
An act for establishing and securing the salary of
the chancellor, passed November session, 1798, chapter 86.
Your committee further report, that the following
laws have expired, viz. An act for the destruction of
crows and squirrels in Queen-Anne's county, passed November session,
1797, chapter 5, expired the 20th day of
