agt: Sumrsett County Ss John Robbins of this County Cordwinder &
Jno: Robbins & uxor defts Catherin his wife were attached to answer unto Samuell Collins
of the said County Bricklayer in an action of Slander ~ ~ ~
And Whereupon the plt: by his Attourny James Sangster comes & sayes that
The deft: Especially the Above said Catherin hath most Wickedly & Malitiously At
Severall times calumniated defamed & slandered the said plt: as Specially in reporting &
perswadeing severall of the good people of this County that the plts: wife is a witch which
At Severall times She did report in the yeare 1687 & more particularly upon the Twelfth day
of December last past At the house of the said defts: She did advise Henry Ledbury of
This County planter not to buy any Living Creature of the plt: for said the said Catherin
She will bewitch them & it will never Trive for she is a Witch & she would take her oath
That the plts: wife was a witch likewise upon the 16th: day of Aprill last among Other
discourses concerning the plts: Wife the said Catherin said to Joseph Staton that the plts
Wife was a witch & she would prove it soe that the plts: doth declare that the said John
Robbins & Catherin his wife hath not Only Malitiously Slandered & defamed the plts:
good name but hath induced Severall of the inhabitants of this province to creditt and
believe her Slanders whereby the plts: wifes life may be endangered & Comerce and
dealeing taken away from the plt: as will appeare more full by Evidence the plt: Sayes -
he is damnified & hath Loss to the vallue of Two hundred pounds Sterling & thereupon

And the said John Robbins by his Attourny Thomas Poole cometh & defendeth the
force & injury of the plt: & Saith that his Action he ought not to have for that he never did
Slander the plts: wife as in manner & forme declared
Upon which came both parties by their Attournies aforesaid & by Mutuall consent put
Themselves to the judgment of this Court
Whereupon it is this day to witt the 12th: day of September as aforesaid considered by
This Court that the aforesaid John Robbins pay unto the said Samuell Collins Two-
hundred pounds of Tobacco with cost &a
And it is further Ordered by this Court that the said John Robbins & Catherin his wife
make their personall appeareance next Court & in the interim to be of the good behaviour
Towards all his lordpps good people & especially towards Samuell Collins & his wife &a:

agt Whereas there being Two accons depending this Court betweene
Thomas Millman deft: the said Trehearne & Millman & the Court considering their poverty
already by other unnecessary Suites at law already had in the Court
It is therefore Ordered by this Court that John West & Stephen Horsey of this Court
gents: be Auditors to audite all all accts: & accons now in dispute between the parties a
=foresaid & make Report thereof at the next County Court held in Sumr:sett County &a
