proper person & before his Lopps Justices then Setting Confest Judgemt for foure hundred eighty Six
pounds of Tobacco due unto the plte whereupon this Cort ordrs that Christopher Newgent pay unto

The humble Peticon of Elizabeth Barnet of the County aforesaid about
the age of Twenty three years or thereabouts
Humbly Sheweth That whereas yor Peticonr was brought out of Accomack by her ffather aboute
Twelve years agone & left with mr: George Johnson She hath since that time remayned AServant-
with the Said George Johnson Now these are to Certifie yor worpp:ll that about A Twelve month agone
or thereabouts not knowing She was free as Since that time She hath understood She was deluded
& deceived by the Said George Johnson in this manner Elizabeth Barnet Saith he I know not how
Long you have to Serve with me but if you will serve me three years you Shall be free & I will
give you one yearling & Saturdayes in the afternoon & hollydayes & rayny days & Learne you
to knitt & sewe & to read and many other faire Speeches by wch: yor petnr: was inticed & bound
her Selfe to him not knowing She was free these are therefore to desire & humbly to intreat yor
worp:ll To take into yor Serious Consideracon for the time She hath Served over & above her time &
to intreat yor worpss that yor petitionr may have her Corne & Clothes due to her for her servitude
& yor Petitionr: Shall ever Pray Janry ye 11th 1675 ~ ~ ~ ~ Elizabeth Barnet
This Indenture made the Twentieth day of ffebry 1674 Betweene George Johnson of the one Part and
Elizabeth Barnet of the other Part Wittness That Elizabeth Barnet doth Covenant & Agree
and put her Selfe and Apprentice to Serve the Said George Johnson his heires or assignes the full
terme of three years from the Day of the date hereof for & in Consideracon thereof the said
George Johnson doth promise to give unto the abovesaid Elizabeth Barnet A Two yearling heifer
as alsoe all her Increase both male & female & Likewise that She Shall have Evening & Saturdayes
in the afternoone to Learne to knitt Sow & read if She will as alsoe to finde the said Elizabeth
Barnett Sufficient meat drinke & Lodging duering the time aforesaid In Wittness whereof
the parties abovesaid have herewith Interchangeably Sett to theire hand & Seales : Geo Johnson Seale

And the deft: George Johnson Saith yt her father left her with him in a miserable Condicon not fitt to
be in Company with any person & for her age he knowes not;/; It is the Judgemt: of the Court
that She being an orphant She was not in A Condicon to Signe an Indenture And orders her freedom
& mrJohnson to pay her Corne & Clothes; Whereupon the Said George Johnson appeales to ye Provincial
Cort And this Cort orders yt the Proseedings here be drawne up & Sent over to ye honrble Justices of the

Allexr: Jemison late of this County deceased
Humbly Sheweth That whereas John Chancellour & Abigall Harringden servants to the aforesaid Allexr Jemison
was Summoned Attached indited & found guilty & by due Coarse of Lawe Suffered Punishment for
Committing fornicacon as records makes appeares here in this his Lopps County of Sommersett
At A County Cort helld the 10th day of march in ye XXXXiiiith year of his Lopps Dominion over the
Province of Maryland Annoq Dom 1673 now the Said Richard Kimball successor of the Said Allexr
Jemison maryeing the said Allexanders widowe: Complaineth to yor worpss that by reason of ye said
John Chancellor & Abigall Harringdens Continewance in Evell Contrary to the Lawes of God
& this Provinde Continewing in fornicacon as is here made appeare to ye worptt Cort ye Damages
great & well knowne to this Judiciall Cort by Losse of Time Inabillity to Service Chardges of her
delivery from Chilldbirth &c Humbly Craves ordr for satisfaccon According to Law by Servitude as
this worpll Cort Shall thinke Convenient & as in duty Shall Pray - - - Ricd Kimball
