NOMINATING RICHARD M. NIXON 951

A nation torn by war wants a restoration of peace.

A nation plagued by disorder wants a renewal of order.

A nation haunted by crime wants respect for law.

A nation wrenched by division wants a rebirth of unity.

If there is one great cry that rings clear, it is the cry for a leader.

At this moment of history the Republican party has the duty to
put forward a man — a man to not only match this moment but to
master it.

We have that man!

He has spent years building his party. He has spent a lifetime
serving his country.

He has fought throughout his political career for principle and he
has not hesitated to pay the price of unpopularity in standing up for
principle.

He has traveled the continents taking America's message to the
world. He has shared in the decisions which shaped for America the
Eisenhower era of prosperity, untainted by war, dissension, fear, law-
lessness or the threat of fiscal and moral chaos.

He knows what is needed to be President and what a President
needs to be.

But it is not only his record of yesterday, it is his voice for tomor-
row that matches this man to this moment.

He says: "This is the moment of opportunity for America. We
sense that opportunity when we put aside what's wrong with America
and start looking at what's right with America. " J believe that, don't
you?

He says: "Let's stop apologizing for America's wealth and power.
Instead let's use it aggressively to attack those problems that threaten
to explode the world. " Isn't that what this party stands for?

He says: "Let's stop apologizing for the success of free enterprise
and instead work at spreading and sharing that success. "

He says: "Right now change rules America. It's time for America
to rule change. " Don't YOU believe that?

He says: "To a crisis of the spirit, America needs an answer of the
spirit. "

What is the spirit of this man who seeks now to answer the na-
tion's call?
