696 ADDRESSES AND STATE PAPERS
tertainment, it is good and needed therapy for all of us in these diffi-
cult days. When we think of Mayberry we can turn our thoughts
away for a moment from Orangeburg. The problems of Aunt Bee are
easier to take than those of Uncle Sam. We are reminded that there is
still something left in the world to laugh about.
I am proud to award to you, Andy Griffith, a plaque of esteem and
have you know the respect all of us feel for you and your special brand
of good and clean humor. You brighten our hours and lighten our
hearts and make just about every parent in town thankful that on
Monday nights, at least, they can give a happy and positive answer
to the man on TV who asks: "Parents, do you know where your
children are?"
They're home because that's Andy Griffith night and if there were
seven of these instead of just one they could discontinue asking that
question altogether.
In addition to the plaque, I am pleased to present another honor
reserved for very few and very special people. Andy Griffith, alias
Andy Taylor, I am proud to proclaim you an Admiral of the Chesa-
peake, an officer of that prestigious fleet that sails the bay, an honor
you will share with Admiral Eddie Albert, Admiral Herb Block,
Admiral Jim Nabors, and that Admiral of Admirals Stan Musial.
I hope you will find reason and cause to visit with us often, to share
our bay and mountains, our Colts and culture, and to know that you
are always welcome among us.
