524 ADDRESSES AND STATE PAPERS

A. Well, I think that he was concerned about the safety of his child,
and naturally he's emotionally involved. But our conversation led me
to believe that he'd been rather objective in his examination of what
took place, and he hadn't restricted himself to what happened to his
child alone. I can't brush off the validity of what he says simply be-
cause he's personally involved.

Q. Has Mr. Cole, your program coordinator in this area, gotten as
many reports as you have on the poor conduct?

A. Well, I don't know that. I don't know whether he's received as
many reports, but he has been involved in looking into the situation
since Senator Dorf made his initial disclosures and has voiced his
concern about Pimlico. I know this, that Mr. Cole feels that the fact
that Pimlico has been singled out for this attention doesn't make it
unique among the schools. I think the situation exists throughout the
State, as I indicated before. And it just so happens that a great amount
of spadework on Pimlico has been done.

Q. Governor, don't you think if this problem does exist there it's

children have been when a major part of the student body is long
gone and in isolated halls and in places where there are only one or
two persons present. I don't think overcrowding has anything much
to do with this.

Q. Governor, Pimlico is one of the few really integrated schools in
Baltimore City. Do you think that has any effect on it?

A. Not a thing.

Q. Senator Dorf mentioned yesterday, when I interviewed him, that
he seems to me to put as much blame on the children getting on
transportation of the Baltimore Transit buses, and several of the girls
have made complaints that they have been molested and that the bus
driver and the company did little about it. Did he mention that at
all?

A. Yes, we talked about that and we know the position of the bus
drivers, that they have been duped into leaving their money unat-
tended to run back to investigate a disturbance in the rear of the bus
and then someone up front has taken their money. They have got a
problem in trying to keep themselves from being robbed. With re-
gard to buses, it's interesting if you remember — and I remember that
