NEWS CONFERENCE 5

Q. Then by and large, you would support this budget?
A. Yes.

Q. Governor, talking about the Tawes budget, do you plan then to
submit a rather large supplemental budget to take care of the widened
growth?

A. I don't know what you call a large supplemental budget, but I
believe that after the growth of the existing programs has been con-
sidered and after there has been a suitable down payment on capital
improvements, which I think the State definitely needs this year, we
will absolutely have to have some supplemental budget to take care of
some of the programs that I advocated during my campaign.

Q. Governor Agnew, whom will you support for State Treasurer?
An incumbent or your choice?

A. I have made no decision on the State Treasurer problem as of the
moment. Certainly I have the greatest respect for Mr. Luetkemeyer.
I don't consider that any hostility exists between us. I am also inter-
ested, of course, in Mr. Dobbin, who is my campaign treasurer. A de-
cision will be made as to how to proceed in this matter within the
next week.

Q. Are you going to appoint Jerry Wolff as the Director of the State
Roads, and have you asked him?

A. I haven't made any final decision on it. I'm interested in Mr.
Wolff. I had a chance to work with him in Baltimore County when
he served as consultant to the Hecht Committee, the fiscal advisory
committee on the county. I find him to be extremely well versed in
these matters. He's an engineer and an attorney and he has broad
experience in government.

Q. Have you asked Mr. Wolff? And, if so, is he receptive to the post?

A. I have discussed the post with Mr. Wolff. I have not specifically
asked him to serve in this capacity. I feel, certainly, that I want to
have a discussion with Mr. Funk before any final decision is made on
this matter.

Q. Does that mean that you may keep Mr. Funk on?

A. I make no implications whatsoever. The statement will have to
stand on its own.
