personnel employed in these various facilities is essential to their suc-
cessful operation. We know that we have such an environment
here in Maryland. The Johns Hopkins University and the Univer-
sity of Maryland have achieved international recognition for their
special strengths in science and engineering. Consider these together
with the excellent universities in the District of Columbia and it is
apparent that this is one of the great cultural and intellectual cen-
ters of the nation and indeed the world.
And so, I take great pride in participating in this dedication cere-
mony today. We are most happy to number the Western Electric
Company among our growing family of science-oriented industry.
Maryland Properties, Incorporated, the developers of this Greater
Baltimore Industrial Park, are also most worthy of our sincere con-
gratulations on this happy occasion. Today is but another example
of your successful efforts to interest nationally prominent corpora-
tions in our State.
Once again, let me thank my friends here today for your courtesy
and your hospitality and offer you my best wishes for success and
happiness in all of your endeavors.

I want to thank all of you for being with us. I know that you took
time away from busy schedules to accept our invitation, and I want
to assure you that it will not be my fault if we break our promise to
let you get back to your important duties quickly. My remarks will
be brief. Initially, it is my happy duty to reaffirm old friendships with
you who work and live, as I, in Maryland. I take additional pleasure
in welcoming you who are "at home" in our state only on a part-time
basis required by your business interests although, regretfully, we
cannot claim you altogether as our own. But it is a very special privi-
lege to greet those of you who are here today as new friends with
newly found interests in Maryland. In inviting you to share this oc-
casion with us, it is obvious that we also are very much interested in
you.
Every governor in our nation will tell you that his is a "progressive"
