I have done a lot of talking tonight about Democrats—I can't help
that—I am one. But I want to say also that I believe that this ticket
of Grady, Goodman and Graham seems to met to be one that exerci-
ses an especially strong appeal to all independent voters and discern-
ing Republicans as well. Baltimore has, through the existence of this
ticket, an unparalleled opportunity to put a really capable group of
men into the City Hall. Harold Grady has shown himself to have an
unusually keen grasp of problems of the American big city in the
twentieth century. Dr. Graham has already made a name for himself
as one of the best city comptrollers to be found anywhere in the
United States. Phil Goodman is an exceedingly able and energetic
legislator, who has thoroughly demonstrated his right to the office
of President of the City Council.

It is for these reasons that I believe that this ticket has an especially
broad appeal to all segments and sections of Baltimore's population.
Moreover, I believe that this appeal will be demonstrated in unmis-
takable fashion when the citizens of this city go to the polls two weeks
from today. In fact, I will make a prediction—I predict that the
team of Harold Grady, Walter Graham and Phil Goodman is going
to be swept into office by one of the biggest and finest majorities that
has ever turned out in Baltimore City!

My fellow Maryland Democrats!...

Just nine months ago the Democratic Party in Maryland acccomp-
lished its greatest state-wide election victory of all time. In a sweeping
triumph—unequaled in the history of this State—our Party captured
every important office, save one, and sent an overwhelming Demo-
cratic majority to the General Assembly at Annapolis and seven
Democratic Congressmen to Washington. To top this off, the Demo-
cratic ticket in Baltimore City, led by Harold Grady, last May won an
equally impressive victory.

This was a tremendous triumph; but, like all such victories, it
