Thomas Tench v. Wm Hopkins
Plea

And the Said William Hopkins by Thomas Bland his Attorney Corns
and Defends the force and Injury when etc. and for plea thereunto Saith.
Whereas by one Act of Assembly made the 26th day of Aprill 1684 it is
amongst other things Enacted That no person or persons whoever within this
Province Shall from and After that Sessions of Assembly Ask Demand or
take directly or indirectly for the loan of any Money Wares or Merchandizes
or other Comoditys Whatsoever to be paid in Money above the Value of Six
pounds for forbearance of one hundred pounds for one Year and So after
that rate for a greater or Lesser Summe of for a Longer or Shorter time nor
Shall any person or persons whatsoever wth in this Province af" from and after
the time afd Ask demand or take directly or indirectly for loan of any Tob-
bacco Wares Merchandizes or other Comoditys to be paid in Tobbacco or
other Comoditys in this Province Above the Value of Eight pound per
hundred for forbearance of One hundred pounds of Tobbacco and after that
rate for any other Goods or Comoditys for one Year and So after that rate
