wards Sallarys and Profitts that Lawfully belong to the Said office of Sheriff
of the Said County as he the Said Thomas Gassaway might Lawfull Take and
receive as the Sallaries allowed for Collecting the publick and County Levies
and the usual Allowances and Sallaries for Collecting other publick and
Dues and all officers Lists and other Lists that are and have been Customary
to be put in the hands of the Sheriff of the Said County to Collect and receive
or for Serving Executing and returning of any Manner of Writts Warrants
precepts or process in the Said County And the said Thomas Gassaway Doth
by these presents Grant Assign and Depute to the Said John Gresham the
Lawfull ordering Custody and Government of her Majesties Goal and prison
at the City of Annapolis in the County aforesaid and of the prisoners now
and hereafter to be therein to be Lawfully and Duly ordered and keept by
the Said John Gresham or his Deputy or Servant with all fees Profitts and
Rewards thereunto belonging dureing all Such time as he the Said Thomas
Gassaway Shall be remain and Continue high Sheriff of the Said County and
it is further Covenanted granted and agreed by the Said Thomas Gassaway
that it may be Lawfull for the Said John Gresham or his deputys or Servants
to make up State and Settle all Accounts belonging or any wise relating to
the Said office and to Signe them in the name of the Said Thomas Gassaway
In Consideration whereof the Said John Gresham Covenanteth granteth and
agreeth and faithfully promiseth for himself his heirs Exrs and Admrs that he
the Said John Gresham his heirs Ex" and Admrs Shall and Will discharge or
otherwise Sufficiently Save and keep harmless as well the Said Thomas Gassa-
way his heirs Exrs and Admrs as also his and their and every of their goods
Chatties Lands Tenements and Hereditaments of and from all manner of
troubles Vexations Suits Actions informations Complaints Contempts fines
forfeitures Amerciaments penaltys pains Sum and Sums of money payable or
Leviable to or for the Queens Majesty or any other person or persons What-
soever for any Matter or thing to be done in or about the Said office And the
Said John Gresham for himself his heirs Exrs and Admrs by these presents
doth further Covenant and grant to and With the Said Thomas Gassaway
his heirs Exrs and Admrs in Like manner to discharge or otherwise to Save
harmless and indemnifye as well the Said Thomas Gassaway his heirs Exrs
and Admrs as also their Goods and Chatties Lands Tenements and Heredita-
ments of and from all manner of escapes both Willfull and Negligent of
Traitors Felons and all other prisoners Committed or to be Committed to
his or their Safe keeping or Charge from breach of prison and of and from
all fines and forfeitures Amercements Sums of money and penaltys that or
they or any of them Shall or may [595] incur bear pay or Sustain for any
escape or breach of prison during all the time of his the Said Gassaways Con-
tinuance in the Said office of High Sheriff And Moreover the Said John
Gresham Shall give all due Attendance Convenient and requisite upon the
Provincial and County Courts and all other Courts and upon her Majesties
