mittment and Imprisonment of the Said Richard Amounted to Eighteen
hundred and Sixty Pounds of Tobacco Which the Same from the Said Rich-
ard Afterw^ds had and received And Was by him the Said Thomas to his Own
use Converted and disposed (To Witt) at Annarundell County aforesaid
And the Said John further Saith that after the Making the Writeing afore-
said and Dureing the Continuance of the Said Thomas in the Said office of
Sheriff of the County aforesaid Viz^t the eight Day of June Anno Dom Seven-
teen Hundred and fourteen at Annarundell County aforesaid at a County
Court then and there held a Certain James Sanders of the Same County had
a Capias returned Cepi Against him at the Suit of Charles Carroll for fifteen
Pounds one Shilling and Eight pence Sterling and Cost of Suit for four hun-
dred and Thirty One Pounds of Tobacco Upon Which return the Sheriff
fees for the Arrestt and Imprisonment Dureing the Time the Said James was
in Custody And Untill the Said Charles Carroll was paid his Debt and Cost
af^d Which Was One hundred and Twenty Days Amounts to the Sum of Two
Thousand Six hundred Pounds of Tobacco which Sume of Two Thousand
Six hundred Pounds of Tobacco from the Said James the Said Thomas had
and received and to his own Use did Convert and Dispose Viz^t At Annarun-
dell County aforesaid And the Said John further Saith that the Said Thomas
Gassaway after the making the Writeing aforesaid (to Witt) the tenth day
of October Anno Dom Seventeen hundred and fourteen at Annarundell
County aforesaid had and received of and from a Certain Anne Jones Widow
Executrix of the Testament and Last Will of a Certain Richard Jones late of
Annarundell County deceased the Quantity of Five Thousand Seven hun-
dred and thirty five pounds of Tobacco being the Ballance that appeared to
become due from the Said Richard in his Life time to the Said Thomas in
respect of his Said office during his Continuance therein (to Witt the Twenty
Ninth Day of October Anno Domini Seventeen hundred and fourteen at
Annarundell County aforesaid and the [593] Same Five Thousand Seven
Hundred and Thirty five pounds of Tobacco to his own use did there Con-
vert and Dispose As also Severall other Sums and Quantitys of Tobacco which
grew by Vertue of the Office of Sherriff as aforesaid Amounting to Eight
Thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Six pounds of Tobacco which Together
with the aforesaid Tobaccoes Amount to the Quantity of Twenty four Thou-
sand and Twenty pounds of Tobacco as by a particular List thereof here
under Written may plainly appear he the Said Thomas Did to his own use
Convert and Dispose of Viz^t the Said Twenty Ninth Day of October Anno
Dom One Thousand Seven hundred and fourteen and this he the Said John
is ready to Verifye And therefore prays Judgment for his Debt aforesaid and
his Damages by Occasion of the Detention of the Detention [sic] of that
Debt to be to him Adjudged etc.
