Acts and Orders of a GENERAL ASSEMBLY, &c.
    holden at Patuxent, the 20th October 1654, by
    Commission from his Highness the Lord Protector,
    &c.
 1.
The Act of Recognition.
2.



Arthur Turner and John Wade, declared Burgesses for St. Mary's
County, being returned in the Room of Thomas Hatton  and  Job Chandler,
who were at first returned, but refused to serve in this Assembly,
as being inconsistent with the Oath they had taken to Lord Baltimore.

Declaration, that every free Subject of the Common-Wealth, shall
have Liberty to petition against Grievances, &c.

An Act concerning Religion.
    N.B. Hereby it was Enacted and Declared, That none who professed and exercised the Popish
(commonly called the Roman Catholic) Religion, could be protected in this Province, by the
Laws of England, formerly established, and yet unrepealed:  Nor by the Government of the
Common-Wealth of England, &c. but to be restrained from the Exercise thereof, &c.  That
such as profess Faith in GOD by JESUS CHRIST, though differing in Judgment from the

Doctrine, Worship or Discipline, publicly held forth, should not be restrained from, but protected
in, the Profession of the Faith, and Exercise of their Religion; so as they abused not this Liberty,
to the Injury of others, Disturbance of the Peace, &c.   Provided such Liberty was not
extended to Popery or Prelacy, nor to such, as under the Profession of CHRIST, held forth and
practiced Licentiousness.
5.
Order, for the Inhabitants of Herring-Creek and the Cliffs, to pay Levy
in Ann-Arundel County, now again called Providence.
6.
Patuxent erected into a County.
7.
Assemblies every three Years.
8.
Public Levies.
9.
An Act concerning Drunkenness.
10.
Concerning Swearing.
11.
Concerning false Reports, Slandering and Tale-bearing.
12.
Concerning the Sabbath-Day.
13.
Concerning Theft.
14.
Concerning Fencing of Ground.
15.
Concerning Adultery and Fornication.
16.
An Act concerning a Register of Births, Marriages and Burials.

Providence County.
