any Contracts or Bargains made after the said First Day of May
One Thousand
Seven Hundred and Nine; and likewise shall pass in Payments of all
Duties
and Impositions which is for the defraying the Charges of this Province,
and
all Officers Fees which by the laws are rated in Money.
III. And in
regard there is at present little other Money in this Province,
than the Dollars commonly called Dog-Dollars, and they being near such
Weight and Fineness, as that they would, by the forementioned Proportion,
pass at Four Shillings and Six-pence, and the Inhabitants of this Province
being not so well acquainted with other foreign Coins, nor at present
provided
with Weights and Scales; it is humbly prayed that it may be Enacted,
And be it further Enacted, by
the Authority aforesaid, That the said Dog-Dollars,
be current in all Payments as aforesaid, at Four Shillings and Six-pence;
as usual, until such Time as her Majesty, her Heirs or Successors, or the
General Assembly of this Province, shall otherwise Ordain and Enact.
IV. The Table
before mentioned:
Sevill, Pillar and Mexico Pieces of Eight,
being Seventeen Pennyweight
Twelve Grains, and Four Shillings and Six-pence intrinsic Value, to pass
at
Six Shillings; Sevill Pieces of Eight, new Plate, Fourteen Pennyweight,
and Three Shillings Seven-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at Dour Shillings
and
Nine-pence; Peru Pieces of Eight, Seventeen Pennyweight Twelve Grains,
and Four Shillings Five-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at Five Shillings
and
Ten-pence; Cross-Dollars, Eighteen Pennyweight Four Grains, and Four
Shillings Four Pence Three Farthings intrinsic Value, to pass at Five Shillings
and Ten-pence; Ducatoons of Flanders, Twenty Pennyweight Twenty-one
Grains, Five Shillings and Six-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at Seven
Shillings and Four-pence; Ecûs of France, or Siler Lewis,
Seventeen Pennyweight
Twelve Grains, Four Shillings Six-pence intrinsic Value, to pass
at Six Shillings; Crusadoes of Portugal, Eleven Pennyweight Four
Grains,
Two Shillings Ten-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at three Shillings and
Nine-pence;
Three Gilder Pieces of Holland, Twenty Pennyweight Seven Grains,
Five Shillings Two-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at Six Shillings and
Eleven-pence;
Old Rix-Dollars of the Empire, Eighteen Pennyweight Ten Grains,
Four Shillings and Six-pence intrinsic Value, to pass at Six Shillings.
The
Half, Quarters, and other Parts, in proportion to the Denominations, and
light
Pieces in proportion to their Weight, and the Currency of all other Silver
Coins
of the same, or baser Alloy, shall, after the said First Day of May
stand regulated,
according to their Weight and Fineness, according and in proportion to
the
Rate before limited and set for Pieces of Eight of Sevill, Pillar and
Mexico.
