and Proceedings of that House in:  And the Loft above the Fore-Porch
over the Commissary's office, to be for hanging a Lanthorn out, and for a
Committee Room.

    IV.  And to make the same more commodious and fit for the Services aforesaid,
Be it Enacted, by the Authority aforesaid, by and with the Advice and Consent
aforesaid, That the said rooms be fitted up with all necessary and convenient
Boxes and Shelves, Desks and Tables to write on; and at the Door of every
Office a Bar be made, within which no person shall come, but the Clerk of 
such Office, remove or convey any Record Book, or Paper of Record,
out of any such office to which it belongs, unless for the use or by express
Command of the Governor or Council, Assembly, or Justices of the Provincial
or County Court.

    V.  And be it Enacted, by the Authority aforesaid, by and with the Advice and
Consent aforesaid, That the Clerks of the several Offices for the Time being,
do carefully and diligently keep all the Records and papers thereof, in good
and decent Order,  And that they mark on the Outside of every Book, the 
Dates of the several Years that the Records within mentioned, were transacted
in; and the same Dates of the Years on all Bundles of Papers, and
mark on the Outside of every Paper, what the inside Contents are.

    VI. And the better to place and settle the several Clerks and Officers of the
several Offices and Stations above mentioned, his Excellency Francis Nicholson,
Esq; his Majesty's present Governor of this Province, the Honourable Sir
Thomas Lawrence, Baronet, his Majesty's Secretary, and the Honourable Henry
Jowles,
Esq; Chancellor of this Province, and the Honourable Kenelm Cheseldyn,
Esq; Commissary-General, or the Survivors of them, is hereby requested,
authorized, impowered and desired, to settle and place the several
Records and Proceedings, and the Clerks and Officers, in the several Offices
and Places above Enacted and Ordained for the Uses aforesaid, as soon as the
said House is finished and compleated.  And any Clerk that shall at any Time
hereafter, either remove or convey out, except before excepted, any the Records
or Process of their respective Office, or neglect or omit to keep their
Records in good order, and duly entered up, contrary to the Tenor of this
Act, shall, upon due Proof thereof, made against such Clerk, and Conviction
thereof, in the Provincial Court of this Province, be liable to be punished
by Fine of One Thousand Pounds of Tobacco, or be for ever after incapable
of bearing the Office of Clerk in this province, either or both Punishments,
as the Justices before whom such matter is tried, shall adjudge; any law,
Statute or Usage to the contrary notwithstanding.
                                    Examined and Compared with the Original Act, REVERDY GHISELIN,
                                                                                                                         THOMAS BACON.
    N.B. The above Act falls under the General Repeal of 1704, ch. 77, but is here inserted to
shew the Appointments of the several public Offices in the State-House, which were made and
settled accordingly.  The present laws for Security of the Records, are 1715, ch. 11; 1716, ch. 
1; 1742, ch. 10; 1747, ch. 3; and 1748, ch. 7.
