    V.  And, that there be purchased to the said Town of Williamstadt, One
Hundred Acres of Land, adjacent to the said Town, for a Common or Pasture
for the Benefit of all Persons within this Province that shall repair to the
said Town.  And that the same be laid out as above expressed, and that Six
Acres of the same be reserved for Public Buildings.

CHAP. VIII.
An Act for the raising a Supply towards defraying the public Charges of this Province.
    EXP.
    Viz. By a Tax upon Officers, for 3 Years, or to the End of the next Session.  Continued by
1695, ch. 26.  A Supplementary law 1696, ch. 11.  It was farther continued in 1696, for 3
Years certain, and expired in 1699, when it appearing that considerable Arrears were due from
many Officers in the several Counties, the same were, by the Assembly, sold to several Gentlemen,
for certain Sums paid down, who were impowered by two Acts, viz. 1699, ch. 2, and 37.
to recover the same from the respective Officers concerned, in their own Names, and to their own
Use.

CHAP. IX.
An Act for the laying an Imposition upon Negroes, Slaves, and White Persons
    imported into this Province.  EXP.
    Viz.  2 s.6 d. Sterling per Poll on white Servants, and 10 s. per Poll on Negroes imported; to
be applied to the Building of a State-House, and defraying other public Dues.  For 3 Years, or
to the End of the next Session.  Continued 1695, ch. 26.  A new Act 1696, ch. 7.

An Act for the Naturalization of Matthias Matthiason, alias Freeman, Peter
    Golley, John and Joseph Gouttee, and Joseph and John, Sons of the said

CHAP. XII.
An Act for the Assessing Three Pence per Hogshead upon Tobacco, towards defraying
    the public Charge of this Province.  EXP.

CHAP. XIII.
An Act for the Division and Regulating several Counties within this Province, and
    constituting a County, by the Name of Prince George's County within the same
    Province.  Lib. LL. N° 2. fol. 92.
    N.B.  By this Act (1.) From and after the 23d April 1696, the Bounds of ST. MARY's County,
shall begin at Point Look-out, and extend itself up Patowmack River, to the lower Side of Bud's
Creek, and so over by a strait Line drawn from the Head of the main Branch of the said Bud's 
Creek, to the Head of Indian Creek, in Patuxent River; including all that Land lying between
Patuxent and Patowmack Rivers, from the lower Part of the said two Creeks, and Branches of Bud's
and Indian Creek, by the Line aforesaid, and Point Look-out as aforesaid.  (2.)  Upon the Upper
Side of the said Indian Creek and Bud's Creek, shall the Bounds of CHARLES County begin,
where the upper Bounds of St. Mary's ends; and extend itself upwards as far as Mattawoman
Creek and Branch, and bounding on the said Branch by a strait Line drawn from the Head
thereof, to the Head of Swanson's Creek, in Patuxent River; including all that land lying on
the upper Part of Bud's Creek and Indian Creek Branches, where St. Mary's County ends, to
the lower side of Mattawoman Creek and Branch, and Swanson's Creek and Branch, between
Patuxent and Patowmack Rivers, as aforesaid.  (3.)  The Land from the upper Side of Mattawoman
and Swanson's Creek and Branches, extending upwards, bounded by Patowmack on the West,
and by Patuxent River on the East, shall be, and is hereby constituted, founded and incorporated
into a County of this Province, and shall be denominated, called and known, by the Name of
PRINCE-GEORGE's County; and shall, from and after the said 23d Day of April next ensuing,
be St. George's Day, have and enjoy all other Rights, Benefits and Privileges, equal with
the other Counties of this Province:  Such as sending Burgesses to Assemblies, having County
Courts, Sheriffs, Justices, and other Officers and Ministers requisite and necessary, and as are used
in other Counties of this Province.  (4.)  Commissioners appointed, who shall, at or before the
said 23d Day of April, cause the said Two Lines, from the Head of Bud's Creek Branch, to the
Head of Indian Creek Branch, and from the Head of Mattawoman Branch to Swanson's Creek
Branch, fully to be marked and lined by a double Line of marked Trees, that the same may be
known and perceived by all persons, desiring to know the same; and shall return a Certificate to the
Governor and Council, to be recorded in the Council Records, and each County Court's Records,
as aforesaid.  (5.)  St. Mary's County Court to be held for ever hereafter at the State-House of
the City of St. Mary's , being hereby allowed and appointed to the County of St. Mary's  for
holding and keeping their Courts in, and such other decent Services, as to the Justices of the
same County, in full Court, shall be consented and agreed to.  (6.)  The Island of Kent to be
Ditto.
