conceived or knew that he had done amiss until he was presented to Baltimore County Court
where at November term last he was fined, that he is a poor man and has a Small helpless family
to maintain and is unable to pay the fine. It appears from a Certificate from the Clerk of the
County that the Petitioner was fined six hundred pounds of Tobacco, and Thirty shillings
Currency. The Board in consideration of the poverty and Ignorance of the Petitioner and the
recommendation of three of the Justices of the said Court do order and direct [p. 135]
that four hundred pounds of Tobacco and Twenty shillings current Money of the above fines
be remitted upon this express condition, that all the fees are paid.

The Council met.
Present as on Saturday.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Mrs. Tootle Seven pounds, ten shillings
it being for one quarter of a year's advance for the board of Thomas Walley.
The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

[p. 136] The following Persons were appointed Commissioners of the tax in the several
Counties and Town of Baltimore, for assessing and securing the collection of the two shilling
and Six penny fund tax, agreeably to "An Act respecting the debtors of this State under the
"Act to establish Funds to Secure the payment of the State debt within six years, and for the
punctual payment of the Annual Interest thereon:
