Charles Wells of Baltimore Town having this Day petitioned the Board to be relieved
from the Debt he owes the State for a Lott and Wharf on Fells point in said Town on the
[p. 79] following Bonds with William Hammond and Thomas Yates his Securities, to wit
two for £1000 each, One for £ 500. and one for f 485. amounting in the whole to the sum of
£ 2,985 Current Money all which are dated the 4th September 1783. And whereas it appears
from a Schedule on Oath annexed to the said Petition that the Petitioner is indebted to Indi-
viduals considerably more than his real and personal property together with seperate [sic]
debts due to him will satisfy, and that there is a Judgment against him for more than his prop-
erty. And though it appears by the said Schedule that the Petitioner has received f 330 and has
due to him £ 500 for rents arising on the said property, yet it also appears that should he recover
the said £ 500 there is little or no prospect of his receiving any part of it, and he has laid out on
the said Wharf f 750; the Petitioner also states that both his Securities are insolvent. The
Board after due Consideration and believing the facts as stated above to be true do order and
direct that the several Bonds abovementioned be delivered up upon the Petitioner's releasing the
State all his right to the said property and paying all such Costs as may have arisen by occasion
of the said Bonds.
