[p. 257] Wednesday 5th. January 1791

The Council met.

Present as on yesterday.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Thursday 6th. January 1791

The Council met.
Present as on yesterday.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Christopher Richmond Esquire One
hundred pounds for two months Salary as Agent from the 1st. Novem'r. last to the 1st. instant.
The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Friday 7th. January 1791.

The Council met.

Present as on yesterday.

Agreeably to a Resolution of the General Assembly the Board have contracted with Mr.
John Gassaway Register of Wills of Ann Arundel County for completing the records of the
late Prerogative Office, and for transcribing such parts of the Records as are defaced at the
rate of seven pounds of Tobacco per side. For making Alphabets to such Books as want them
and for transcribing the general Alphabet of Wills and binding the books, the Board will
determine on a compensation when they shall have formed a Satisfactory opinion of the
labour and trouble it will occasion.

Capt. Gassaway having represented that he will have occasion for Money to purchase
Books for the above purposes and to pay for the binding of the old Record Books.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Capt. Gassaway fifty pounds Current
Money on his giving bond with Security to account for the same.

The following Gentlemen were appointed Chief Justices of the following Districts under
the "Act for the better Administration of Justice in the several Counties of this State." [p.

258]

Michael Jenifer Stone for the first District.

James Tilghman, Second.

John Done, fourth.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Saturday 8th. January 1791

The Council met.
Present as on yesterday.

Thomas Jenings was appointed Chief Justice for the third and Richard Potts for the
fifth District.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Monday 10th. January 1791

The Council met.

Present as on Saturday.

Thomas Jenings Esqr. having declined serving as Chief Justice of the third District.
