Journal of the State Council, 1784-1789. 67
This Board do direct and order that the said Sum of Twenty pounds

forfeited on Recognizance be remitted.

W. Smallwood
Jr. To'y. Chase
James Brice
John Kilty

In Council 17th. December 1785

James Jarvis of Harford County by his Petition sets forth, that
he was presented at a March Term 1784 for demanding of William
Jordan, Eight pence for Grog; which he declares was made Strong,
and with good Spirits, as the said Jordan had desired. The Petitioner
suggests that Jordan was not dissatisfied with the Charge; but was
put upon presenting him by a certain Peter Carroll, to whom he
casually mentioned the Circumstance, and who threatned him with
a [p 82] Presentment in case he did not present the Peti-
tioner. On considering the Circumstances mentioned and a Recom-
mendation from three Magistrates of the said County, which ac-
companies the Petition, the Board do order and direct that the fine
imposed in consequence of the said Presentment be remitted.
