296 Journal of the State Council, 1784-1789.

Day of November next to testify in the Case of the Election for
Sheriffs of Queen Anne's County, held the first Monday in October
instant.

On Considering the Petition of John Ritchie, setting forth that the
late Election for Sheriffs in Frederick County, was illegally con-
ducted and praying that a Commission may not issue to the person
returned as having the greatest number of Votes until enquiry shall
have been made therein.

Resolved that Friday the 7th. Day of November next be appointed
for an enquiry into the Same; that the parties attend on that Day
with their Witnesses, and that Summons be issued by the Clerk when
applied for.

Ordered that the Clerk transmit a Copy of the aforesaid Petition,
together with the above Resolution to Peter Mantz Esquire,
[p 363] Summons issued for William Hilleary and Philip Leng-
stack of Frederick County to attend this Board on Friday the 7th.
Day of November next, to testify in the Case of the Election for
Sheriffs of Frederick County, held the first Monday in October
instant.

Summons issued for Clement Sewell, John Thompson, George
Jackson, Robert Wright, Doctr. Saml. Thompson, George Vander-
ford, Thomas Roberts, Isaac Colgin and Charles Reighley to testify
in the Election for Sheriffs of Queen Anne's County.

Commission issued to John Leatherbury elected Sheriff of Somer-
set County.

The Council adjourned 'till Monday next.

Monday 3d. November 1788

The Council met.

John Davidson

Benjamin Harrison Esquires.

Commission dated the 1st. instant, issued to Philip Ford elected
Sheriff of St. Mary's County.

Summon's issued by the Clerk the 31st. October for Jacob Young
and William Beatty of Frederick County to attend this Board on
Friday the 7th. Day of November next to testify in the Case of the
Election for Sheriffs of Frederick County held the first Monday in
October last.

Ordered That the Western Shore Treasurer pay to John Davidson
Esquire Thirty one pounds, five shillings for One quarters Salary
as a Member of the Council,
