pounds ten shillings for half a year's salary as Clerk to the House of
Delegates due the 1st. Instant,

That the said Treasurer pay to Benjamin Nicholson Esqr. Sixty
two pounds, ten shillings for one Quarter's Salary as Judge of the
Court of Admiralty due the 1st. of February last,

That the said Treasurer pay to the said Benjamin Nicholson Sixty
two pounds, ten shillings for One Quarter's Salary as Judge afore-
said due the 1st. Instant.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning.

Saturday 17111. May 1788

The Council met.

Present as on Yesterday.

Ordered That the Western Shore Treasurer pay to John Shaw
seventeen pounds, one shilling and eight pence to be expended in
paying for the Carriage of Arms to Frederick Town on Account,

That the said Treasurer pay to George Bare Twenty pounds eight
shillings and four pence due him for taking care of the Magazine
near Frederick Town per Account passed by the Deputy Auditor,

That the said Treasurer pay to Simon Retalick Nine pounds, nine
shillings and nine pence due him per Account passed by the Auditor
General.

The Board took into consideration the following transcript from
the Records of the General Court for the Eastern Shore, and the
opinion of the said Court on the Case:

State of Maryland

Solomon Clayton Register
of Wills for Queen Anne's County

Presentment for detention of

the Records of Caroline County—

Submit's—fined £30.

Current Money

It appearing to the Court that the Conduct of the Defendant did
not proceed from either Contumacy or negligence, but altogether
from doubts and difficulties, which he entertained, respecting his
Duty under the Act of Assembly in that case provided, as the papers
retained related to the Estates of Persons who had died prior to the
erection of the County of Caroline, and were actually transmitted as
papers belonging to Queen Anne's County, of which he was Register
without any Indorsement as belonging to Caroline County, They do
