[p 2] The Petition of John [torn] is laid before the Board setting
forth, that he removed to Baltimore Town in order to obtain a Sub-
sistence for a Wife and several small Children, by his Labour, that on
his arrival in Town with his Family, and being a Stranger he hap-
pened to go into the House of a certain John Hughes, which had the
appearance of a Tavern and as such had been occupied for some time

before, that the said House being waste he entered it, with intention to

remain there that Night only, not apprehending any Danger could
insue therefrom, but to his very great surprize he was taken Prisoner
in said House by the Sheriff of Baltimore County, who had as he
was afterwards informed, some attached Goods therein, and was con-
fined in Prison, tried and fined Ten pounds, and ordered to give
Security in the penalty of Fifty pounds for his future good Behaviour,
and four of the Justices of the said County having recommended a
Remission of the said Fine. The Board taking the same into Con-
sideration, are of Opinion that the said fine be remitted, and do
therefore order, and direct a Remission accordingly.

The Council met.

Present the Honble Charles Wallace, Aquila Paca and John

Davidson Esqrs.

Stephen West Esqr. exhibits to this Board an Amount against
Dunlop Son & Company by Adam Stewart their Agent for Three
hundred and sixty eight Pounds, nine shillings Sterling and Three
hundred and thirty pounds, nineteen shillings and ten pence Currency,
and also an Amount against Daniel Stephenson for Nine pounds,
thirteen shillings and eleven pence Sterling, and One hundred and
eighty three pounds, six shillings and two pence Currency, received
into the Auditors Office and adjusted by him the 29th. September
last, which are examined and approved.

His Excellency the Governor Attended

Commissions issued to Henry Banning appointed one of the
Coroners of Talbot County, and also to Stephen Fleharty appointed
one of the Coroners of Caroline County.

The Council adjourned 'till to morrow 11 o'clock.
